Survey Research and African Americans: The National Survey of American Life

On July 15, 2020, Dr. Robert Taylor made a presentation as part of ICPSR’s Blalock Lecture Series. It provided a brief history of survey research data collections among African Americans, and discussed the role of ISR’s Program for Research on Black Americans in collecting the National Survey of Black Americans and the National Survey of American Life (NSAL). The presentation also presented select findings from the NSAL including research on the association between everyday discrimination and mental health.
